Brief history

McKinney was named after Collin McKinney, a land surveyor who helped draft and signed the Texas Declaration of Independence from Mexico. The town boomed with the advent of the railroad system and became a major industrial center for textiles and grains. Many of the area’s impressive historic homes that still stand today were built in the 1890s. In 2014, Money Magazine named it the #1 Place to Live in the country.
