Orchard Named to the Parity.Org Best Companies for Women to Advance List

Aug 1, 2022

NEW YORK, August 1, 2022Orchard, the company that is radically simplifying home buying and selling, today announced they have been named to the Parity.Org Best Companies for Women to Advance™ List for 2022. The ParityLIST™ recognizes organizations that are creating a culture and conditions in which women can rise through recruiting, promotion, and compensation practices, leadership representation, and benefits and policies that collectively help companies achieve gender parity.

“The pandemic created a substantial setback for female advancement in the workforce. But the companies that made this year’s ParityLIST not only got back on track, they sped past all expectations,” said Cathrin Stickney, Parity.Org founder and CEO. “The extraordinary performance of this year’s honorees proves that a genuine commitment and focus, coupled with the right tools, measures, and practices, will absolutely move the needle toward fairness.”

Companies selected for the 2022 ParityLIST had a number of policies in common including the following Orchard practices:

  • Female-identifying employees in leadership positions across the business
  • Flexible working hours and remote-friendly policies
  • Paid sick leave for all employees
  • A culture of encouraging both men and women to take their full family leave
  • Comfortable private rooms with refrigerators for nursing parents in offices

Orchard is proud to also offer a unique benefit – guaranteed commission for commission-based employees on family leave, as well as guaranteed commission during their first month ramping back up.

Additionally, Orchard offers all employees a five-part management track as they advance their careers. Once employees are promoted to the manager-level, they are invited to management training that gives them a shared vocabulary and a set of tools to effectively build and lead teams. Topics covered include coaching, feedback, and hiring effectively. Employees also have access to Manager Dens and Manager Book Clubs, as well as a number of other initiatives designed to grow their skills. These workshops are essential in providing new managers, and especially female managers, with guidance and support so that they thrive in their roles and have a community of peers to turn to with questions.

“We are proud to be recognized on the ParityLIST as a place where women can advance in their careers. At Orchard, we strive to build a culture where employees of all backgrounds feel empowered to contribute their unique ideas and perspectives, and where they feel supported in their unique career trajectories,” says Lorraine Buhannic, Orchard Head of People “Diverse teams are more innovative, thoughtful and productive than homogenous ones. We are intentional in our approach to recruiting and retaining talented individuals and ensuring a diverse team across all departments.”

Within the past 12 months, more than 50% of internal promotions at the VP or above level were earned by female-identifying employees, and almost half of new hires at the VP level were women. 61% of job applicants were women in June 2022, which ties back to steps Orchard has taken around sourcing diverse candidates, particularly in technical roles.
